"Only One Thing at a Time"

Today after church we walked in the house and Bryson wanted to "jump," meaning he wanted to jump off the couch onto some pillows (one of his favorite past times). So we moved the coffee table out of the way and he got busy jumping while I started making some sandwiches for lunch. While I was slicing tomatoes, this is the conversation Bryson and I had:

Bryson: (while jumping and sweating) I want water mommy
Me: hang on just a second Bryson
Bryson: I want water now mommy....please!!!
Me: I'm happy to get you some water Bryson, but mommy can only do one thing at a time (that's a phrase I say to him often) and right now I am slicing tomatoes. I will get you some water as soon as I'm finished.

That satisfied him until I could wash my hands and get him his water.

A few minutes later this is how our conversation went:

Me: Bryson your lunch is ready! Would you please climb into your chair so you can eat?
Bryson: (while jumping) Bryson can only do one ting at time mommy!

I died laughing!!!! Talk about getting a taste of your own medicine. Gosh I love that little boy!

Goodbye Grandpa

My last remaining grandparent, Arnold Cornell Green, passed away at age 90 last Saturday. I just returned from his funeral and am so full of emotion and reflection.

My grandpa lived such an amazing life and died prepared. I learned a lot about my grandpa's life at his funeral that I didn't know before. I'll share a bit below with pictures I stole off his Facebook page (yes, my grandpa had a Facebook page--was he cool or what?!?!). Most of these are from the war because that's all he posted.

This good looking young chap is my grandpa.

He served in the Army Air Corp, and flew B-17's and B29's in WWII (that was something I had no idea until today--pretty cool!).

He was a big-time ladies man back in his day.

He served a total of SEVEN missions--one to Arkansas that was changed to New Zealand right after the war, three stake missions, and three to the Philippines with his sweetheart.

When I was a little girl it seemed he and my grandma were always on a mission. I always looked forward to the Philippino treasures they would bring home for me after each mission.

My grandpa LOVED to sing and sang with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir as a first tenor for over 20 years (1949-1977). I loved to listen to my grandpa sing and don't believe there was ever a time I saw him that I didn't hear him sing.

My favorite memory of him singing happened just a few years ago when Mike and I went to visit my grandparents while they lived down in St. George. I woke up really early one morning to use the bathroom and saw my grandpa out on his back patio sitting in a chair facing the beautiful desert view they had and he was singing the most beautiful song in his amazing tenor voice. He was singing not to be heard by anyone, but simply because he loved to sing. I stood there and listened to him with tears streaming down my face and remember thinking to myself "this is a moment I will never forget!" I don't think he ever knew that I saw and heard him that morning, but it's a memory I will cherish forever!

My grandpa told the best stories (some true, some not) and would often get laughing so hard during them that he had a hard time finishing. I have no clue what this picture is all about but it made laugh, so I thought I'd post it.

Men in the war back then must have enjoyed walking around in their underwear because he sure has a lot of pictures in his.

My grandpa was amazing at making friends and had many. There were so many stories shared of the love and service he gave to others which really inspired me to do the same.

He loved to write letters and valued the importance of keeping in touch with friends. He began each morning writing several letters to old friends and continued that tradition daily up until just two days before he died.

He and my grandma were married in the Laie, Hawaii temple 61 years ago TODAY!

I know their reunion was an amazing one! I miss them both, but know I will see them again someday.

As I drove home from my grandpa's funeral I reflected on so many things. I thought about the many things I need to change in my life to be better. I thought about people I need to forgive. I thought about the person I want to become. I thought about the type of legacy I hope to leave. As I drove, I also listened to the following song, which is one of my favorite songs, and just sobbed as I thought about the life my grandpa lived and how he truly lived up to the message it shares:

Our earthly lives are so temporary, but the people we become through our earthly experiences is eternal. My grandpa was among the great and left such an amazing legacy. I love you grandpa and will miss you!

New Design

Thought I'd change up my design again. If anyone is interested, I will be adding my old design to the premade department over at Designer Blogs in a few days. It can be purchased for $25.

The new header design is symbolic of our hope to adopt another little one soon. It has the three birds on the left (me, Mike and Bryson) and the one little bird on the right (the little one we hope to find our way to soon). We are still working on getting our paperwork in by the end of the year. We'll keep you posted!

Adoption Month

I saw this video on the poplular adoption blog The R House and wanted to share it here because I loved it! Adoption truly is amazing and I feel so blessed to be apart of it.

a day with grandpa

On Friday Bryson & Brock (I babysit him each Friday) got to spend the day with grandpa "Hink!" My dad is the Athletic Director for Riverton High School and his girls volleyball team was competing in a tournament at UVU. Since I'm such a huge fan of volleyball, he invited the boys and I to join him.

First we stopped by the baseball field to see uncle Josh.

The boys had fun playing on the playground and chasing baseballs down the hill.

Then we went inside to watch the girls play.

Grandpa spoiled them with lots of junk food.

Watching the girls play on the same courts I use to play on made me miss volleyball SO MUCH! Those were the glory days!

Thanks dad! We had a great time.

P.S. On a bittersweet note, my grandpa Green (my mom's dad) passed away yesterday (bitter part) and is now with his eternal sweetheart again (sweet part). He was my last remaining living grandparent. I'll post more about that soon.

halloween fun

Saturday night Bryson and I helped my sister throw a fun Halloween party for all of our friends from the ward we grew up in. Mike missed out on the party because he had tickets to the BYU slaughter. Not a fun night for him, but a great night for us!

Posing with some of the girls...

More posing with a fun cutout...

The cute kiddos....

The infamous "dice game"....

To play, put a pile of loot in the middle (candy, prizes, cookies, toys, etc).

Pass several bowls around with dice. Roll a 3 or a 5 and you get to pick something from the middle.

Once everything is gone you set the timer and the real fun (or should I say "fighting") begins! This time when you roll a 3 or a 5 you get to steal something from another player. When the timer rings you get to keep everything you have in front of you.

The loot...

Playing the game Wolf....

Drawing on pumpkins....

Mr. Incredible (AKA Ryan) off to save the world...

Such a great time!

Big thanks to the fabulous Angie for the pics.

this boy

Last night Mike and I put Bryson down for bed and then snuggled up on the couch to enjoy a movie together before heading to bed ourselves.

When the movie ended around 10pm, we noticed noises coming from Bryson's room. So we opened the door and found him still awake playing with all of his toys. The little stinker.

This is what he was in the middle of playing when we found him:

Classic.

Just think about it...if he's already pretending to share the gospel at age two, imagine the powerhouse missionary he'll be at age 19! Go Bryson!

And this is the pile of toys he claimed he needed next to him in order to go to sleep last night.
